GROW Beach Haven & Birkdale is so much more than simply learning how to grow vegetables in the back yard.
It is a passion project born from a desire to get back to basics through a strong foundation of meeting our fundamental needs, to empower people and to connect them with the true essence of who they are. As their garden grows, they will grow.
The Mission
To support and empower families and individuals through a holistic approach toward creating positive, long-term and sustainable changes so they can thrive in life.
The Vision
To create communities of connected people who are interdependent, self-sufficient and healthy in mind, body and soul.
Our Values
- Respect the environment and all that dwells in it
- Look after the wellbeing of mind, body and soul
- Work together for the benefit of each other and of humanity
- Show respect for your fellow beings
- Be responsible and accountable for our actions in all areas of our life as they speak louder than words
- Live with integrity – be truthful and honest at all times
- Remain close to your heart
The GROW Beach Haven & Birkdale project aligns with the four cornerstones of Te Whare Tapa Whā:
- Taha tinana (physical wellbeing) – healthy food
- Taha wairua (spiritual wellbeing) – connection with nature
- Taha whanau (social wellbeing) – bringing people together around a shared objective
- Taha hinengaro (mental & emotional wellbeing) – building confidence and empowerment through a sense of self-responsibility for one’s own wellbeing.
This ensures there are many overall benefits including access to organic fruit & vegetables at low cost, a connection to the earth and nature through caring for the garden, a sense of responsibility for their own well-being, a means to become more self-sufficient, a more supportive and connected community where positive relationships can flourish around a shared objective and the opportunity to create positive change in one’s life through self-empowerment, self-responsibility and commitment.
